Classroom Discipline
Dear Families,
You may soon be hearing a lot about “The Smile” calendar (Home/Communication Calendar) from your student. It’s a part of a system that helps students take responsibility for their own behavior in the classroom each day. Here is how it works… as a school, we follow the “3R’s”. It means to be Responsible, Respectful, and Ready. When your student has had a great day and was able to follow the 3R’s, your student will color the day’s smiley face. If your student needed reminders to follow the 3R’s, their face will be left uncolored and there will be a written note indicating which of the 3R’s needed to be addressed.
Every month your child will receive a new “The smile” calendar. It will be kept in a plastic page in the front of their binder. It is important to take a few moments to review the calendar with your student daily. Be sure to praise all the “smile” days – these mean your student followed every rule, all day long! Your praise will encourage your student to work toward even more “smile” days in the future. Then, at the end of each week sign the report and return it to their teacher. We understand that students may occasionally forget to follow the rules, but we still want to encourage positive classroom behavior. Let’s make this a great year!
Sincerely,
Team One Teachers
