On Wednesday students received a permission slip for our first field trip. On November 15th we will be going to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore. We are in need of chaperones as wellPlease return is by:
Sight words have been sent home or will be sent home by today (Wednesday). Please have your student cut them up and practice them at home. Keep them somewhere safe where they can be accessed by them as well. Students will have weekly sight word homework on the Reader's Roar (RR) calendar. Also, students will then receive a new sheet of sight words each week in their Friday folders. (Note: some teachers sent home the whole sight word pack already).
Remember to make practicing the words fun. Ideas to practice sight words at home: -Hide them around the house and have them read the word -Pull random words and use them in a verbal sentence -Say a word and have your student find it -Have your student find the sight words while they are reading a book These are just a few ideas. Be creative :) -The First Grade Team Our Donors Choose project is up and running! Help us raise money for more guided reading books for our students that align with common core and our content material. If you donate this week, Donors Choose will match it dollar for dollar!! Please pass our link along to family and friends today. Remember, you will not only be helping this year's first graders, but future first graders too!! Please go HERE to donate.

We are so excited for the new school year that is quickly approaching. The first grade team has been hard at work getting our classrooms ready for you. Come and meet us at the open house on Friday from 3-3:45pm.
Due to the 5th grade Simulated Congressional Hearing tomorrow (Friday, May, 10) there will be limited parking at GCES and Murray Hill Middle. Please consider walking to school, car pooling with another family, or parking in the neighborhood and walking to GCES. Please also consider arriving early (9:00) so that we can depart with all students and chaperones on time at 9:30. We are looking forward to a fun day at the zoo.
First grade is still in need of some chaperones for our May 10 field trip to the Baltimore Zoo. Please consider attending, as we need as many chaperones as possible.
